Fecal Short-Chain Fatty Acids as Potential Biomarkers for Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder

چکیده

Introduction Growing evidence supports a possible link between gut microbiota and attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) via the gut-brain axis. Short-chain fatty acids (SCFAs), major metabolites produced by through anaerobic fermentation, may influence communication. Objectives To determine alterations of fecal SCFAs in children diagnosed with ADHD compared to healthy subjects. Methods Fecal samples were collected from (n=10), age- sex-matched controls (n=10) for analysis. Results There no significant differences abundance any bacterial phyla feces groups. However, concentrations acetic acid, propionic butyric acid significantly lower those ( Figure1 ). Interestingly, levels negatively correlated symptoms Table 1 Macronutrient fiber intake, determined food frequency questionnaires, did not differ 1. In Vitro Analysis of Short Chain Fatty Acids and Human Fecal Microbiota Stimulated by Pectin Sources

As interest increases for colonic health, various studies have been conducted to investigate functional ingredients for host health and prevention of chronic disease in humans such as colon cancer and Type 2 diabetes. In particular dietary fiber has been reported to have beneficial effects on colonic health. More recently, dietary fiber has been categorized based on its characteristics and nume...

A gas chromatographic analysis of fecal short-chain fatty acids, using the direct injection method.

A simple, reproducible, and rapid gas chromatographic method for short-chain fatty acid determination in human feces was developed. It involves direct injection of fecal supernatants into the gas chromatograph, without any pretreatment. Contamination of the gas chromatographic column with nonvolatile fecal material was prevented by the use of a glass liner in the injector. This liner, which act...
